Peer Recovery Supervisor (PR-S)

The IC&RC standards represent the minimum criteria for certification/licensure. Member boards affiliated with the IC&RC may require additional standards that reflect local mandates, regulations, and/or best practices. Please consult with your local IC&RC Member Board for specific standards and requirements applicable to your jurisdiction.

Eligibility

  • Certified Peers: Those who have taken and passed the IC&RC PR exam and have met all other Minimum Standards for the Peer Recovery Supervisor (PR-S) – Provisional certification
  •  Non-certified Peers: Those who are licensed/credentialed in a relevant field – provided that earning the license or credential requires passing a recognized, professional competency exam and have met the Minimum Standards for the Peer Recovery Supervisor (PR-S)- Provisional certification (apart from the PR exam)

Provisional Status: The Peer Recovery Supervisor (P-RS)Provisional certification is valid for two years and non-renewable. Individuals are expected to work toward full certification status once the exam-based Peer Recovery Supervisor credential is launched (launch date TBD)

Certified Peer

Non-Certified Peer (for those who hold other related licenses and credentials)

Prerequisite

  • Applicant must hold and maintain a Peer Recovery (PR) credential at the IC&RC reciprocal level.
Prerequisite

  • Applicant must hold and maintain a relevant credential recognized by the state and have leadership or supervisory experience.
Professional Experience

  • 4000 supervised hours (or 2 years) in professional Substance Use/Mental Health Services.
Professional Experience

  • 4000 supervised hours (or 2 years) working in the behavioral health or related field with a Bachelor’s degree. OR
  • 2000 supervised hours (or 1 year) working in the behavioral health or related field with a Master’s degree.
Education

  • 14 hours of Recovery Support Supervision Training.
Education

  • 14 hours of Recovery Support Supervision Training. AND
  • 6 hours specific to IC&RC peer recovery Ethics domains.
Supervision

  • 300 hours supervisory or leadership experience of peer recovery support professionals.
Supervision

  • 300 hours in a supervisory or leadership role within the behavioral health system and/or related field.
Examination

  • No additional exam required (Certified Peers would have taken and passed the IC&RC Peer (PR) exam).
  • Professionals who earned their PR credential during a legacy period will be required to take the exam.
